Pricing?
Let’s start straight away with the price, which is often the most complicated aspect of partner boards compared with NVIDIA’s Founders Edition. Here, as a reminder, the Founders Edition has an MSRP price defined by NVIDIA of 1109 euros ($999). This is excellent news, since it offers a performance boost at a price lower than that of the RTX 4080 at the time of its launch, i.e. 1,469 euros! As the RTX 4080 was not as successful as NVIDIA had hoped, this SUPER model benefits from a much lower price.
The price of our example of the day, the Gigabyte RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming OC, is likely to be higher, as this is a custom card with factory overclocking. The current price of the Gigabyte RTX 4080 Gaming OC model is 1,329 euros. It remains to be seen what price will be set by online stores. Last but not least, don’t forget that production of the RTX 4080 has come to a halt and, fingers crossed, there will be some bargains to be had in the days to come.
Performance?
As you can see from our various tests, our Gigabyte RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming OC does rather well, with a performance difference of around 5-6% over the RTX 4080 thanks to its factory overclocking. As we said above, the lower price means a much more attractive price/performance ratio for this model, provided that the stores are moving in the same direction.
The card?
As we hinted at the beginning of this article, the “Gaming OC” model is one we now test regularly. While the external appearance remains unchanged, it has grown in size to keep the RTX 4080 SUPER chip cooler. Despite this, the design remains sober and the cooling performance is very good. The radiator is very imposing, and the three fans have no difficulty in keeping the PCB, which is much shorter than the radiator, cool. Fans of RGB backlighting will find a different rendering from the competition, since it’s the outside of the fan shroud that lights up.
Gigabyte RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming OC
Once again, we find ourselves in an awkward position when it comes to this Gigabyte RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming OC. On the one hand, the chip not only outperforms the RTX 4080, but also boasts a much more attractive MSRP than when the RTX 4080 was launched. Now, we’re aware that this Gigabyte will be sold above MSRP. It remains to be seen whether you have the budget to benefit from an excellent card, with factory overclocking and a high-performance cooling system.
