StatCounter has conducted a new survey on the market share of Windows operating systems. Clearly, Microsoft is struggling to shake off Windows 10, which remains the firm’s most widely usedOS!
Windows 10 still widely used, Windows 11 not gaining ground!
As we can see, despite a gradual downward trend, Windows 10 remains the most popular operating system of the moment. In December 2023, it had a 67.42% market share, compared with 26.54% for Windows 11. However, for the month of December, both systems saw a very slight drop in share of 0.6%, compared with 0.09% for Windows 11.
Looking at Microsoft’s other systems, we see that Windows 7 is still running on 3.35% of machines. Then there’s Windows 8.1 on 1.68% of machines, versus 0.64% for Windows XP and 0.28% for Windows 8.
Finally, we can see that Windows 7 and 8/8.1 are very much in the minority, confirmed by Steam stats.
However, among gamers (Steam platform), Microsoft’s two main systems are almost neck-and-neck. Valve recorded 55.44% of machines running Windows 10 versus 43.51%. As we told you last time, W7 doesn’t even account for 1% of machines.
Windows 11 was due to be released in October 2021, and support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. Rumors also suggest that Windows 12 will arrive in June 2024.
