Steam Deck goes into service on the Ukrainian front!

The Ukrainian front sees a lot of weirdness, both in terms of weaponry and technology. Indeed, we can see modified weapons from the Second World War, etc. However, what interests us here is the Steam Deck from Valve which is used on the Ukrainian side. The console used to control turrets!

Steam Deck: the console used as a terminal to control Ukrainian turrets!

In broad terms, these handheld consoles serve as the control interface for the Sablya or “saber” turrets. The latter are entirely remote-controlled and consist of a machine gun, obviously PKP type, fed with ammunition … At least, on the model presented here. Otherwise, we learn that the system can be equipped with anti-tank weapons as well.

The weapon is mounted on a support allowing the operator to orientate it as he wishes. In addition, it has a camera and a remote control, the Valve console is only used as a pilot interface.

Finally, the Steam Deck seems to be well adapted to this type of use. We find a screen, we can switch to desktop mode and it runs with a full Linux system. The advantage of this system is that, since the turrets are remotely controlled, the operator’s life is preserved.
