AMD has released a new driver update, RADEON Software 23.8.2. This new version focuses particularly on Starfield, where performance gains of up to 16% are promised. Of course, this is in comparison with the previous driver, 23.8.1.

RADEON Software 23.8.2: up to 16% performance gains on Starfield!

Starfield - GeForce 537.13New features include support for Bethesda’s Starfield game. This is accompanied by performance gains of up to 16% in UHD with the RADEON RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT. Of course, these gains were observed against the old driver, RADEON Software 23.8.1.

In other news, AMD fixes a particularly annoying problem on Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Game crashes or driver timeouts can be observed on Baldur’s Gate 3 with the DirectX11API on certain RX 7000-equipped systems.

For the time being, there are no Starfield-related patches, but they’ll be coming soon. In addition, AMD has already spotted a few things that weren’t quite right… Well, things that have been hanging around since the last driver, anyway:

  • The performance overlay can display ” N/A ” in the FPS box on some games.
  • Audio/video desynchronization may occur when recording in AV1 via RADEON Software.
  • The screen may not display the correct brightness on certain games with certain Samsung FreeSync Premium Pro displays or certain TVs when local dimming is active.

Finally, AMD says it is working with Bethesda to resolve driver timeout issues. Similarly, some users of ultra-wide screens may experience visual corruptions when Dynamic Resolution is set between 75% and 78%. A workaround? Readjust this option.
