ASRock unveils the memory configurations of the RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT

After PowerColor spilled the beans on the RX 7800 XT, it’s now ASRock’s turn. AMD’s partner, via its EEC registrations, indicates the memory configuration of its future RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT.

RX 7700 XT: 12 GB 192-bit memory!

Let’s start with the little RX 7700 XT, which, according to EEC registrations, should boast 12 GB of memory. For this amount of VRAM, there’s no choice but to opt for a 192-bit bus. Coupled with memory running at 19.2 Gbps, this gives us a total bandwidth of 468 GB/s.

In actual fact, the memory configuration of this card is very similar to that of the RTX 4070, both in terms of capacity and throughput. Remember that NVIDIA’s 4070 also offers 12 GB of memory on a 192-bit bus. However, the chameleon’s VRAM is faster: 21 Gbps, which enables higher bandwidth: 504.2 GB/s.

RX 7800 XT: 16 GB of 256-bit memory – but we knew it!

As for the RX 7800 XT, it’s clear that we’re moving up a gear, with 4 GB more memory. The same goes for bus width, which increases to 256 bits. Once again, coupled with memory running at 19.5 Gbps, this gives a memory bandwidth of 624 GB/s.

Compared with the NVIDIA range, this 7800 XT would offer a memory configuration similar to that of the RTX 4080. The GeForce, while offering 16 GB of 256-bit GDDR6, offers a higher memory bandwidth: 716.8 GB/s, thanks to its faster memory.

Once again, it remains to be seen what these new AMD cards will deliver in terms of performance. However, we can see the RX 7700 XT competing with the RTX 4060 Ti and the 7800 XT playing elbows with the RTX 4070. In any case, on the memory front, the AMD cards are more interesting and should have less trouble with VRAM-hungry games like Resident Evil 4 Remake.
