The American company Pure Storage, which specializes in data storage for businesses, has announced its ambitions. Indeed, the company wants to offer in a not so distant future NVMe SSDs of 300Tb of capacity!

Towards 300TB enterprise SSDs in 2026 at Pure Storage?

Pure StorageFor the time being, the company is not hiding its ambition to offer storage solutions based on very high capacity SSDs. Indeed, the company wants to reach crazy capacities of 300 TB in SSD by 2026. To get an idea, currently they offer 24TB and 48TB storage media. Despite such “low” capacities (compared to what is advertised), the company still offers 1.92 PB FlashBlade//E storage arrays. There, with 300TB media, the total capacity of the array will be up to 12PB.

Still, to reach those capacities, much denser memory chips will be needed. Currently, according to Alex McMullan (CTO at Pure Storage), manufacturers are delivering chips with between 112 layers and 160 layers. Nevertheless, the company intends to exploit the upcoming progress with chips consisting of 400 to 500 layers to offer its famous SSD.

Pure Storage roadmap.

On the other hand, all these announcements should be taken with a grain of salt. Other storage unit manufacturers such as Toshiba are planning to reach or even exceed 40TB by 2026. Concerning Seagate, we are working on 50Tb in 2025 against 100Tb in 2030… Who knows if this is not an announcement effect to attract some investor in a current morose context. On the other hand, we will also keep in mind that we are in the field of the SSD which frees itself from the mechanical constraints of the hard disk environment.
