GeekBench 6.1: new version and a slight increase in scores

0

Primate Labs updates its Geekbench benchmark software. The famous free, cross-platform testing software has gained in functionality, while slightly modifying the way points are calculated. It goes without saying that scores obtained between versions 6.0 and 6.1 should not be compared.

GeekBench 6.1, what’s new?

On the menu, the editor makes a few changes to the way the benchmark works. These include changes in the way background blur and horizon detection are used. All this directly affects high-end systems with many cores, improving performance.

Similarly, to reduce the risk of thermal throttling , there is a longer delay between two tests. What’s more, all this is done in such a way as to minimize differences in performance from one test to the next. For example, the time between two runs has been increased from 2 secs to 5 secs.

Last but not least, the editor adds support for new instructions. These include the SVE and AVX512-FP16 instructions for image processing and machine learning (in the case of SVE).

In short, with all these new features and changes linked to benchmark execution/calculation, Primate Labs is reporting higher scores. These can be as high as +5% for single-core, versus 10% for multi-core. Be careful, therefore, not to compare results from version 6.0 with those from the new version: 6.1.
