FPS loss between 2560 x 1440p and 3440 x 1440p?

This is a question we’ve been asked in connection with our articles on the RX 7800 XT. If I go from a 2560 x 1440p screen to a 3440 x 1440p one, will I lose FPS? The answer is yes, but we wanted to quantify it. Once again, we turned to our Discord community.

One of our active members, Muut, has an LG 27GN850B screen and an Alienware AW3420DWF at home. He therefore offered to benchmark Cyberpunk 2077 with his configuration based on a 5.5 GHz i9-13900K, an 8000 MT/s CL36 DDR5 memory kit and an NVIDIA RTX 4090. Here are the results he obtained on both screens.

Without DLSS, the average FPS is 78.39 FPS at 2560 x 1440p and drops to 61.29 FPS at 3440 x 1440p. With DLSS 3 enabled, the average FPS is 196.34 FPS in 2560 x 1440p and drops to 160.81 FPS in 3440 x 1440p. As you can see, the impact is quite strong, and you’ll need to take this into account should you decide to acquire a screen with this type of definition. Thanks to Muut for the time spent on this benchmark, and don’t hesitate to join us on Discord.
