Towards RX 7950 XTX and RX 7950 XT?

This morning, we told you about Maxon’s new launch: Cinebench R24. The publisher is offering an updated version of its famous benchmark software. And if we look at the recommended configurations for running the software, two graphics cards stand out: the RX 7950 XTX and RX 7950 XT. A typing error?

RX 7950 XTX and RX 7950 XT: a typo?

RX 7950 XTX - RX 7950 XTAs you can see, the names of these hypothetical boards are indeed present in the list of supported AMD boards for Windows. In fact, at the time of writing, they are still displayed.

The question now is whether this is a typo, and that’s where it gets tricky. After all, 7x50s aren’t the first we’ve heard of them. Then, to make two mistakes in a row on graphics card references and type RX 7900 right after them… Weird, but let’s face it, the proofreading didn’t do its job.

On the other hand, if AMD did indeed offer us 7×50 XT/Xs, what could we possibly be dealing with? This is where things get complicated. Our Spanish confrères at El Chapuzas indicate that this could be a refresh of the current series. However, unlike the 6×50, whose frequencies were simply improved, here we could be treated to a reduction in engraving finesse. This would make it possible to create denser chips while improving performance.

We could then see new chips with higher frequencies and improved performance. Alternatively, the second option would simply be to offer die shrinks with higher frequencies, much as NVIDIA did with its GTX 280 and GTX 285, for example. The advantage of this solution is that it would bring prices down.

Finally, all this is just supposition, of course, with a pinch of salt.
