The Threadripper processor series is back in the news. This time, we turn to China, where we find a Threadripper 7985WX being sold on the black market. The CPU in question is said to be from the forthcoming Pro series!
Threadripper 7985WX: a model for sale on the Chinese black market!
As you can see, this is a massive CPU. Indeed, the advert states that the processor uses an imposing SP6 socket. What’s more, it’s a processor with a total of 64 cores and 128 threads, and a TDP of 350W. It thus completes the 7995WX and 7975WX models we discovered in a leak from SiSoftware’s BDD. However, we have no indication as to the frequencies of this model.
As a reminder, with this Pro 7000WX series, AMD aims to renew its workstation processor offering. To this end, the company is promoting CPUs with Zen4 cores, with all the architectural advantages they bring. And that’s not all, as the new platform will be more up to date with the latest technologies. These include support for DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5 .0.
Reportedly, the launch could well take place by the end of the year. Unfortunately, AMD does not appear to have confirmed any launch events as yet. As for the processor in question, assuming the announcement is legitimate, for the time being, purchasers risk being left with a CPU without a compatible motherboard.
