RTX 4090 reauthorized in China!

There’s no end to the twists and turns in the battle between the USA and China. The Americans are waging a technological war on China, doing everything in their power to restrict their chip and semiconductor industry. To this end, Uncle Sam is banning NVIDIA and other companies from exporting chips that are too powerful for AI. The aim? To prevent the modernization of the Chinese army through the use of American technology. At least, that’s the official version. And, after banning the export of the RTX 4090, it is once again authorized on Chinese soil!

While NVIDIA’s 4090 and L40 are once again authorized for export, the brand’s biggest server boards are still subject to restrictions. This applies to the A100, H100, A800, H800 and L40S. The effect is immediate.

Normally, this should ease the situation a little over there, since at the time of the announcement, card prices had doubled or even quadrupled. The worst was for those who had bought such a card in the interim and paid 3x the price… A dead loss for them.

What’s more, this should perhaps calm prices worldwide. Following this ban, the price of the 4090 gradually increased internationally. At Newegg, no card is available at MSRP any more, at a minimum cost of $1779.99. Before that, however, cards were available below NVIDIA’s suggested retail price.

In short, a case to follow.
