These days, importing a graphics card into the country may cost the Pakistanis a lot of money. Indeed, the government is introducing a tax on GPUs depending on their amount of video memory. Note that the latter can reach $540 if the card has 24 GB of memory.

Pakistan: up to $540 tax on imported graphics cards!

Pakistan taxe GPUCurrently, in this country, if you buy a graphics card, you pay 36% in taxes, which is already enormous. However, in order to circumvent or mitigate this, it is not uncommon for the declared value to be lower than the real value of the product. By doing this, the buyer makes money, but the state loses. To counter this phenomenon, Pakistan decided to add an additional tax depending on the amount of memory of the card. This tax starts at $65 for a small GPU with 4 GB of VRAM and goes up crescendo. It will reach a massive +$540 on 24 GB cards! There are not 50 such cards, with this taxation system, the buyer ends up paying 1/3 of the price of an RTX 3090 in addition… Just by counting the ” VRAM ” tax! With the dollar/Pakistani rupee rates, the import of an RX 6900 XT and its 16 GB of VRAM, comes with a bill of 137768 rupees. Finally, this poses major pricing problems. As pointed out by our colleagues as pointed out in the article, you can end up paying more in taxes for an RTX 3060 with 12 GB than for an RTX 3070 with 8 GB of memory. The same with a very small RX 6500 XT with 8 GB and an RTX 3070. Especially since this system can be circumvented by importing naked cards, without packaging, and without labels. The goal is to distort or prevent the identification of imported goods in order to limit import taxes. In short, a very shaky decision.
