In a post on its blog, NVIDIA does some NVIDIA by promoting the quality of its AV1 encoding. The brand boasts about the quality of its rendering compared to its competitors AMD and now Intel.

AV1 encoding, it’s NVIDIA who has the biggest… According to NVIDIA!

The arrival of OBS Studio 29.1 brings AV1 support via the Enhanced Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP). NVIDIA is taking the opportunity to promote the capabilities of its cards to handle the format via their 8th generation NVENC encoder. And according to the greens, their cards offer better results than competing cards.

After a test/comparative session, the chameleon shares a small demo following a video rendering in 12 Mbps. It emerges that the visual quality is superior to what can offer a RX 7900 XT or an Arc A770 from Intel.

In addition, NVIDIA also highlights the advantages of this format over H.264. They indicate that encoding is on average 40% more efficient, up to 50% in UHD. The other interest lies in the lower bandwidth consumption since it is possible to hold a UHD stream at 60 frames/sec on 10 Mbps.

Finally, this codec is visibly supported by YouTube (as a beta feature) thanks to a recent RTMP update that also brings HEVC streaming support.
