NVIDIA driver: be careful with your CPU usage!

Currently, if you have the GeForce 531.18 WHQL driver installed on your PC you would do well to monitor your CPU usage. In fact, a recently reported bug indicates that after exiting a game, the driver can make excessive use of your CPU. The best thing to do is to simply uninstall the NVIDIA driver and switch back to the old version!

Indeed, after quitting a game, the driver can continue to pull abusively on the processor. The latter can generate a CPU usage of more than 10% to reach 15% on its own.

Finally, the immediate solution to get around the problem is simple: uninstall this GeForce 531.18 WHQL and switch to the old version. Obviously, the GeForce 528.49 WHQL does not seem to suffer from any major problem.

To check if you have this problem, the best thing to do is to check yourself via the Windows task manager. Via the process tab and then by sorting the CPU usage in ascending order you will be able to see how much the driver consumes.

In any case, given the nature of the problem, we can expect a quick reaction from NVIDIA. It’s not impossible that they will release a hotfix soon… If not, it will be part of the list of fixes brought by the next version of the driver.
