First release for Intel Core i9-15900K / i7-15700K (Core Ultra 2)?

It seems that two 15th-generation Intel Arrow Lake-S processors have been spotted in the GFX CI system , which tests upcoming components for Linux. Two high-end processors have been spotted in the repository. Of course, the most observant and knowledgeable among you will know that these next CPUs will probably not be called Core i9-15900K and Core i7-15700K. Intel has decided to change the way it names its processors. Chances are that these chips will be called Core Ultra 7 and 9 (Second Generation or Core Ultra 2).

Arrow Lake: will CPUs be here in 2024?

In detail, these two new processors should have the following features:

  • The i7-15700K equivalent, which could be called Core Ultra 7, would have 20 cores and 20 threads (no hyper-threading). The cores would be divided into 8 P-cores and 12 E-cores. We could have a base frequency of 2.3 GHz (probably the E-cores).
  • For the i9-15900K equivalent, which could be called Core Ultra 9, we’d have 24 cores and 24 threads (again, without hyper-threading). These cores may be divided into 8 P cores and 16 E cores, based on Lion Cove and Skymont architectures respectively.

Other information suggests that the majority of Arrow Lake CPUs will not be manufactured using the Intel 20A process. New rumors claim that high-end processors and all mobile processors will be manufactured using the TSMC N3B (3 nm) process. Only a few low-end 6 8 chips will be based on the Intel 20A node. The iGPU will be manufactured on TSMC‘s 4 nm (N4P) process, possibly leaving the IO chip (identical to Meteor Lake) as the only Intel tile…A very disturbing situation in view of Intel’s statements on its timetable. It also comes on top of other rumours suggesting delays and a paper launch of Arrow Ake at the very end of 2024, with sales volumes only reaching the first quarter of 2025. Computex could provide us with further information. AMD is due to show Zen 5, and Intel will also be keeping an eye on the market.
