For some time now, finding an AMD graphics card at MSI has been complicated. This is even more the case at the moment with the RX 7000s, even though they are officially in the brand’s catalog. One example is the Radeon RX 7900 XT GAMING TRIO CLASSIC 20G. However, our green competitor’s references are multiplying, with new variations such as the RTX 4080 Super EXPERT. If we explore the brand’s catalog, we can count 147 models of GeForce RTX 40 Series cards, compared with 4 for the Radeon RX 7000 series…and which are neither visible nor available.
MSI has quietly pulled the plug on its range of Radeon graphics cards
Our colleague HardwareLuxx was able to put the question to MSI to find out what the company’s choices were. The answer was very clear:
As far as graphics cards are concerned, we’re currently concentrating more on RTX cards. Nevertheless, the collaboration with AMD is essential and extremely relevant for us. We’re seeing very positive developments, particularly in the motherboard field.
A few years ago, Nvidia used to put a certain amount of pressure on its partners regarding competing cards in their catalog. Unofficially, this led to less-than-ideal deliveries of RTX GPUs, which account for the vast majority of sales on the market. But this time, it seems that MSI just wants to focus on the core market. The brand has therefore chosen to focus on Nvidia, while not closing the doors to AMD. In this respect, the motherboards of the reds are strongly pushed by MSI. While MSI does not say it has decided to stop producing graphics cards based on AMD chips, it does not say otherwise either.
However, if MSI were to withdraw from the Radeon card business, that would leave Asus and Gigabyte as strong brands. It’s worth noting that these two brands are also discreet when it comes to Radeon cards. Meanwhile, Acer, which is entering this segment, is banking heavily on AMD cards.
