Der8auer tests the Lamptron €300 cooler and it sucks!

At the beginning of the month, we told you about a major new product from Lamptron: a new CPU cooler. However, in addition to being excessively expensive – €300, as a reminder – it’s also very disappointing. Der8auer tests it on video!

Der8auer: ” Don’t buy this!

Lamptron ST060As a reminder, with this heatsink, the brand offers us an imposing reference equipped with a large LCD screen on top. The latter offers a high native 1080p resolution. Otherwise, it’s the usual format: double tower, copper base, six heat pipes and two 120 mm fans.

In fact, in terms of performance, it performs adequately, since the overclocker recorded temperatures roughly equivalent to those of its Dark Rock Pro 5. No particular criticisms here.

However, it’s everything else that’s wrong. For a start, reverse engineering is required for assembly. No instructions are included in the box. Worse still, a USB key is supplied, but the files are corrupted… Or the key. So if there was a manual on it, it’s unreadable. What’s more, the assembly system itself isn’t great, due to the large tolerances. So you’ll have to spend a lot of time on it. Finally, even with DDR5 vengeance, compatibility remains complicated, since you won’t be able to reassemble the first fan because of the screen.

As for the screen, while it’s a fun idea to be able to display a lot of information at once, setting it up is complicated. If you manually change the resolution, the screen does anything. Otherwise, with the right resolution, the templates are out of resolution: too big.

Finally, the price… 300 €. As Der8auer pointed out, at this price, you might as well buy a €70 double-tower cooler and a separate monitoring screen. You’ll get something for less, and at least it’ll work!
