DDR5 only on Raptor Lake ?

Some information suggests that Intel would push (strongly) with its partners motherboard manufacturers, so that the future series of chipset 700 (for the 13th generation aka Raptor Lake) is only available with support for DDR5.

With Raptor Lake, Intel wants to accelerate the adoption of DDR5

Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake processors will include both DDR5 and DDR4 IMCs. However, the rookies seem to be making a big effort to accelerate the adoption rate ofDDR5 memory. The emerging option seems to be exclusive use of DDR5 on 700 series motherboards, but it will still be possible to use Raptor Lake chips with DDR4 memory on 600 series motherboards. The compatibility of the next generation with existing motherboards is already acquired and confirmed by Intel. For the moment, the difference between the 600 and 700 series chipsets is not clearly palpable. At first glance, the changes don’t seem to go beyond increasing the number of PCI-Express 4.0 slots or adding a few more USB ports in the high-end chipset, the Intel Z790. AMD has also decided to push only DDR5 support on its upcoming AM5 platform. For Intel, having two “compatible” platforms that can allow combinations of either DDR4 or DDR5 is undoubtedly an important advantage over AMD’s future competition.
