Battlemage in the Intel labs!

Intel’s current graphics cards are the Alchemist. We find them in several forms: the A380 for entry-level applications, and the A750 and A770 for mid-range applications. For the moment, these models don’t venture into the high-end sector, but things could change with the future Battlemage generation.

Intel is actively working on it, as journalists have been able to catch a glimpse of GPUs in the brand’s labs. In fact, Intel recently gave the press a tour of their Malaysian facility!

Andreas Schilling, editor at Hardwareluxx, was able to attend the visit. During the tour, the journalist saw wafers, the silicon wafers on which chips are etched, with Emerald Rapids processors. Meteor Lake 6P8E CPUs with GT2 graphics were also on show. As a reminder, these are mobile- and server-oriented processors respectively.

But most important of all were the next-generation graphics chips. These were spotted in the “failure” lab. This is where Intel analyzes possible weaknesses in chip production.

It was in this lab that the journalist was able to lay eyes on the future BMG-G10 GPU , a counterpart to the ACM-G10 that currently equips the A750 and A770. Here, we can well imagine it taking its place in the Arc B750 and B770, Intel’s new mainstream offering.

While Alchemist has remained confined to the entry-level and mainstream sectors, with Battlemage, the blues could be looking further afield. Rumors indicate that the series will be able to compete with high-end cards from AMD and NVIDIA. As for engraving, TSMC could well be in charge of production with its 4 nm process.
