AMD is working on low-cost AM5 motherboards for its Ryzen 7000 cpus

AMD would be worried about its AM5 range. Today, the Team Red are being hit hard by Intel’s strategy with two ranges covering the entire market at competitive prices. The pill is all the more difficult to swallow as it is one of the keys to AMD’s success in recent years. At Intel, the support of DDR4 memory and affordable 600 series motherboards allow Team Blue to put the pressure on. Thus, since the release of the Ryzen 7000, promotions are multiplying to try to turn the tide. However, even with more aggressive pricing, the cost of access to the AM5 platform is a significant brake. So AMD is reportedly pushing its partners to bring several AM5 motherboards to the market at much more affordable prices.

Cheaper motherboards without PCIe Gen 5

The idea would be to have a less elaborate VRM area design (which would be detrimental to future scalability) but also to take advantage of PCIe Gen 4 instead of PCIe Gen 5. All this (except the VRM story) has been planned by AMD since the beginning but we have to admit that manufacturers have all preferred to focus on the high-end…A situation that doesn’t really do AMD any favors

The fact remains that the price of DDR5 is still a handicap even if the differences are reducing at a very high pace.
