AGESA 1.0.8.0: new AMD microcode for Phoenix APUs!

From AMD, we learn that the company is offering new firmware containing AGESA 1.0.8.0. This is intended for the brand’s future Phoenix APUs, processors equipped with a significant graphics component. All for AM5 platforms!

Phoenix APUs: first support via AGESA 1.0.8.0!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new APU, since the last series was launched in 2021. That year, AMD offered its Ryzen 5000G with Zen3 cores. Since then, nothing.

Fortunately, new APUs seem to be on the way, since a new microcode is in circulation. This has already begun to be deployed by Asus, which offers it on its Prime B650-Plus and Ex B650M-V7 motherboards via new bios. The ” Drivers & Utility ” section reads:

” Update AGESA version to Combo AM5 PI 1.0.8.0 to support new coming APU “

These new APUs should come with new cores, since we’re talking about Zen4 cores. There should be a maximum of eight cores. The graphics section, on the other hand, will feature a maximum of 12 compute units in RDNA 3 architecture, the same as the RX 7000. Finally, TDPs would reach 65W max, as with other APU generations.

However, we can expect a serious performance boost for the graphics section. On the one hand, the latter would benefit from a more recent architecture, and therefore from the latest improvements proposed by AMD. But secondly, we’d be entitled to a serious gain in bandwidth, thanks to support for DDR5 RAM. All the more so as AMD improved memory compatibility with its latest AGESA 1.0.0.7.
