12VHPWR : RMA rejected at MSI because of cablemod adapter

0

A bad adventure for an MSI graphics card user. He was refused a service return for his graphics card because he was using a 90° 12VHPWR adapter from cablemod. This must be a tough pill for him to swallow.

12VHPWR: an RMA refused by MSI because of a 90° cablemod adapter!

CableMod adaptateur 12VHPWR 90°.

This 12VHPWR connector is a real pain. Admittedly, it saves a lot of space, all the more so as it can carry a high power rating: 600W. However, it tends to catch fire quickly if it’s not properly connected… Or when the cable is too bent… Or when the planets aren’t properly aligned… So you get the picture.

To make life easier for users, Cablemod offers a 90° adapter in its catalog. This takes care of installation while reducing the cable’s bending angle. On the other hand, it comes with its share of inconveniences, which we mentioned here.

Nevertheless, a new user has had a problem with it, and we can assume that the power connector has melted. To make matters worse, he asked MSI, the manufacturer of his card, to send him a return request, which they refused. The reason: he had used the wrong cable, the one supplied by MSI, but a third-party brand. All the more so since MicroStar Internationnal points to tolerance problems (proven or otherwise) with the adapter in question.

In itself, this is understandable, since the card was not used under the conditions defined by MSI. On the other hand, cablemod guarantees to refund the card and adapter in the event of a problem. Wouldn’t this be the easy way out for MSI? Indeed, knowing this, wouldn’t brands be tempted to charge cablemod to avoid providing after-sales service themselves… And save themselves unnecessary expense? This may be a rather simplistic or “conspiracy” view of things, but there are no small savings. Finally, the most important thing is that a solution exists for the user.
