We have already told you about the Core i9-12900KS which should be released soon to complete the Alder Lake range from the top. This i9 is actually just a pre-binned CPU with the same characteristics as the 12900K with 16 cores and 24 threads.

Core i9-12900KS The interest of this version would be to have a version capable of teasing high frequencies. Thus, the 12900KS could allow to have, on all the P cores, a frequency up to 5.2 GHz and up to 5.5 GHz on a single core. The most recent leaks allow us to get an idea of how interesting this CPU is. A Cinebench R23 test appeared with the 12900 KS running at 5.4 GHz on all its cores. The processor reportedly scored 29519 points in the CB R23 multicore test, which seems consistent.

Core i9-12900KS: available this quarter?

The other unveiled screenshot gives a glimpse of the processor’s additional memory overclocking potential. The system used is equipped with DDR5-7398 memory installed on the high-end MSI Unify-X Z690motherboard.

Core i9-12900KS To run the Core i9-12900KS at its full potential, the “Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost” feature in their Z690 BIOS will have to be activated. This type of boost is not available for the other processors in the Alder Lake family. Needless to say, the gain in frequency will come at the cost of an explosion in power consumption. The cooling system will have to be paid even more attention than usual. Logically the Core i9-12900KS should be launched before the end of this quarter, no indication on the price is available for the moment.
