Sapphire’s RX 7900 GRE Nitro shows itself in photos. So we can lay our eyes on the card and start playing the game of seven differences with the brand’s XT version. Nevertheless, these photos raise a few questions!

RX 7900 GRE Nitro: it’s visible!

At first glance, the map looks identical to the XT/XTX versions of the 7900… But only at first glance. In fact, if you concentrate a little, you’ll notice that the GRE has only two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, as opposed to three for the other versions. Similarly, on the back, there are a few extra openings in the backplate, while the rear opening is more elaborate.

One major difference, however, is the GPU heatsink retention system. The latter is considerably smaller, at least compared with the RX 7900 XT/X. This raises a number of questions, not least about the GPU used. Although it’s assumed that the Navi 31 LE contains 84 compute units, i.e. 5376 stream processors, the same number as the 7900 XT. On the other hand, memory is truncated, with a 256-bit bus (instead of 320 bits) and VRAM capacity reduced from 20 GB to 16 GB. Infinity Cache is also reduced: 64 MB instead of 90 MB.

Of course, the question of price and availability remains to be resolved. We suspect that this is a card exclusive to China, but is it a limited-edition series or a mass-production card? In short, so many unanswered questions.
