First banned from the Chinese market, then debanked, it turns out that the RTX 4090 is still affected by US restrictions. From now until November 17, it will no longer be possible to buy an RTX 4090 on Chinese soil!

RTX 4090: the card is indeed banned from export to China!

Finally, it turns out that the card is indeed affected by US export restrictions on high-performance graphics cards. If there had been a glimmer of hope recently, it was simply a mistake. Indeed, the previous SEC filing omitted the presence of the card, whereas the first one did.

This time, however, it has been confirmed that NVIDIA’s board will no longer be available in China from November 17. Various Chinese sources indicate that NVIDIA is massively redirecting stocks of cards in the country. The aim? To import as many as possible before the sanctions take effect. This is one of the reasons for the recent rise in card prices… That, plus a less favorable €/$ exchange rate for the euro of late.

As a reminder, these sanctions are designed to prevent the use of high-performance GPUs in military applications. To this end, the Americans are banning all imports of cards whose performance exceeds 4800 TOPS. This concerns the A100, H100, A800, H800 and L40S, and probably the L40.

In the meantime, prices for cards still in stock are skyrocketing. As seen here, prices have doubled or even quadrupled, depending on the model. If you go to AliExpress, it’s not hard to find models at over €5,000, €6,000 and more. A phenomenon linked to high demand, given that stocks will no longer be renewed.

In short, if you’re in China, even if prices have skyrocketed, buy the card while you still can. After November 17, stocks will no longer be renewed, and once they’ve run out, you can’t buy any more!
