An RTX 2080 Ti mod with 44 GB VRAM installed!

Right now, graphics card modding is all the rage. Between Paulo Gomes and now @wxnod we find ourselves with graphics cards that have memory capacities they shouldn’t have. Right now, it’s an RTX 2080 Ti that boasts no less than 44 GB of VRAM!

RTX 2080 Ti 44 GB, but how did he do it?

RTX 2080 Ti 44 GoBroadly speaking, the card used exploits a reference PCB that turns out to be identical to that of the Titan RTX… Or almost. Indeed, one of the most notable differences concerns memory. While the Titan RTX has memory chips on both sides of the PCB, the 2080 Ti does not. In fact, its memory is only present on the GPU side.

So, to achieve a capacity of 44 GB, the modder has replaced the 1 GB chips with 2 GB chips. Capacity is thus increased from 11 GB to 22 GB. Finally, to reach 44 GB, 12 2-GB chips are again soldered to the back of the card, as on the famous Titan RTX.

Behind this, we don’t know if the card has undergone any bios changes to force recognition of the 44 GB of memory. On the other hand, everything is perfectly recognized via GPU-Z! Nevertheless, the card doesn’t seem to work in game, according to exchanges on Twitter.
