Here’s a piece of information that contradicts quite a few rumors about the release of AMD’s new RX 7900 cards. According to Kyle Bennett and several other sources, the total number of Navi 31 GPUs that AMD plans to ship this quarter is around 200,000 units, a volume far above what Nvidia has done for its RTX 4090 and 4080. The Navi 31 chip powers the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT through two variations of the GPU. In addition to this volume that should not be available on the day of course, it is also specified that 30,000 reference cards are in stock for the launch day

If we take a step back on this information, it means that the purchase should be a less tense operation but that the volumes for partners will arrive gradually. For several weeks contradictory information have been circulating on the actual availability of the RX 7900 for this launch. Even with these announced volumes (keep in mind that Nvidia has shipped 160,000 GPUs in total for the RTX 4090 and 4080 in mid-November), the end of the year will be tense for AMD.
The rush for a reference model looks to be intense especially since the custom cards of the red partners will necessarily have a higher price. It is very likely that the situation will settle down after the holidays. But clearly, this latest information seems to leave hope that a card will be available at its public price in the next few hours.
