AD103-301: the chip that saves money, but not you!

Obviously, NVIDIA would work on a new variant of its RTX 4080 by making a small change of chip. Indeed, the brand would have started to send GPUs AD103-301 to its partners. The result? Economies of scale via a PCB less expensive to produce!

AD103-301: less complex PCB to produce!

Galax RTX 4080 AD103-301

With this new variant, NVIDIA offers a chip with lower PCB requirements. This new revision features a new pinout scheme allowing some savings in PCB design.

These “301” chips can already be found in some of NVIDIA’s partners. We think in particular of Galax or Gainward (via VideoCardz) who have already updated their product sheets.

This small change of pinout would allow to make a small cost reduction: $1 in BOM according to HKEPC. However, even $1 becomes very interesting if you consider the economies of scale. 10,000 cards produced = $10,000 saved. However, don’t expect any impact on your bill.

Moreover, this new variant does not bring any noticeable change for the consumer from a heating or consumption point of view. The chip remains identical to the original model with the same capacities.

Moreover, we learn that the RTX 4070 Ti should also have the right to a revised chip and less expensive to implement. The AD104-250 would thus make way for the AD104-251.
