In the first quarter of 2024, the number of CPUs shipped reached 62 million units. While this figure is down on the end of 2023 (69 million), it is up sharply on the first quarter of 2023, which recorded “only” 47 million shipments.

Of these 62 million processors, an overwhelming majority came from the mobile sector: 73% versus just 27% from the desktop side. Over time, this trend becomes more pronounced: Q1 2023 68% were notebook models, then 69% in Q4 2023. The more time passes, the smaller the share of desktop processors.

How’s the Intel/AMD rivalry going? Well, we learn that the Reds are maintaining their market share, with 18% (versus 82% for Intel) of the sector for processors integrating an iGPU. Moreover, this segment represents 56 million shipments out of a total of 62 million.

And that’s just the consumer segment, since server shipments are down. They are down 13% on Q4 2023 and 17% on Q1 2023.
