The end of Galax

Like EVGA, the Galax brand is bowing out and announcing the end of its activities. The Palit brand will take over the company’s activities, after-sales service and so on. In these troubled times, the brand was no longer able to obtain sufficient supplies of key components for the production of its graphics cards, and the company decided to close its doors.

Galax closes, Palit takes over!

A supply chain too constrained?

It’s hard to say exactly what the reasons for this closure are, but our colleagues mention too many constraints on the supply chain. This can be a real killer for a manufacturer, because if it can’t source GPUs or memory chips, it can’t assemble boards. And if it can’t assemble cards, it can’t sell them, and it can’t make money. So the company lives on its cash flow until it runs out. Clearly, that’s what happened here.

Concerning Palit, we learn that the brand was already in charge of managing Galax and KFA². But now that the brand’s activities have come to an end, Palit has taken over the entire management, including after-sales service. If you have a problem with your equipment, you know who to turn to!

A brief history :

To put it simply, Galax, formerly Galaxy, is a graphics card manufacturer based in Hong Kong. The brand was launched in 1994, with a strong presence in Asia-Pacific and North and South America. In Europe, the KFA² brand was responsible for operations. But the company was best known for its HOF(Hall of Fame) board series, a range geared to extreme performance! These models benefited from cutting-edge design, with a redesigned PCB incorporating high-quality, performance-oriented components. This was one of the series that rivalled the K|ngP|n range from EVGA, another iconic manufacturer who passed away a few years ago.

A blow to the overclocking scene?

With the end of Galax, it’s the overclocking scene that takes a hit. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of manufacturers specializing in this type of hardware close down, in addition to those discontinuing the practice. No more HOFs to make enthusiasts dream. On the other hand, if you’re lucky enough to own one of these cards, you’d do well to hold on to it, as the price is likely to rise in the coming weeks. On the other hand, you’re holding a piece of history!

However, the story doesn’t tell us whether Palit will maintain an extreme OC division or whether the brand will continue to produce mainstream GPUs only. Unfortunately, the whole story doesn’t tell us what will become of the brand’s employees. Let’s hope they manage to find a place for themselves on the Palit team. For the sake of completeness, Palit, like Galax, KFA2 and Gainward, belongs to the same group.
