To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand, ASUS has just launched a new X870E AM5 motherboard featuring a design corresponding to its first motherboard dating back to 2006, the legendary Crosshair.

20 years on, the Rog Crosshair 2006 is back!

This motherboard features the AMD X870E chipset and is inspired by the design of the first ROG Crosshair, launched in 2006, with features such as a copper-colored heatsink, blue and white slots and the original Project G-Cube logo. This “anniversary” model of this motherboard shares the same architecture as the ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero, while adopting almost entirely the design of the initial version released 20 years ago.

The motherboard features an impressive 7-phase VRM system (20 [110A] + 2 [110A] + 2 [80A]), cooled by large copper heat pipes and heatsinks. It features four DDR5 DIMM slots supporting capacities of up to 256 GB and speeds of up to 9600 MT/s+. As with the Dark Hero, ASUS AEMP II and NitroPath technologies are also supported. There are a total of five M.2 slots, two of them PCIe 5.0-standard and three PCIe 4.0-standard. The main M.2 PCIe 5.0 slot is equipped with a 2″ OLED display, featuring the “ROG” G-Cube logo, and is integrated with a high-end copper heatsink with heat pipe solution.

The card has been in our lab for a few days now, and we’re preparing a few little surprises for the more nostalgic. Of course, don’t expect a full test from us, since, as mentioned above, while this card is largely based on its 2006 big sister, we’re actually dealing with an X870E Dark Hero, which we’ve already been able to test here.
