New world frequency record with a CPU reaching 9.2 GHz! This time, overclocker wytiwx took first place with a Core i9 14900K cooled with liquid helium! However, the CPU only ran on its P-Cores, the E-Cores having been deactivated during the exercise. Nevertheless, the performance is there!

The Core i9 14900K reaches 9.2 GHz!

An Intel CPU and an ASUS motherboard!

Core i9 14900K 9,2 GHz

To reach such a high frequency, the overclocker used a 14900K, mounted on an ASUS motherboard. However, this was a model geared towards extreme overclocking, as it was a Maximus Z790 Apex. A total of 16 GB of DDR5 memory was also included, while the power supply was entrusted to a 1600W ASUS ROG Thor, a resolutely high-end unit.

As far as cooling is concerned, the team brought out the heavy artillery, since liquid helium is used to cool the CPU efficiently. While the temperature of liquid nitrogen is -196°C, that of liquid helium is even lower: -269°C.

The 14th-generation Core i is on a roll in terms of frequency!

When it comes to frequencies alone, the fourteenth-generation Core i is clearly on a roll. Looking at the rankings, we can see that the top three CPUs in the ranking are variants of the 14900K, with two 14900KFs and one 14900KS.

Even so, getting up to such high frequencies is no simple matter. Indeed, in the top 10 CPU frequency records, we find two AMD FX, with an FX-8350 reaching 8.722 GHz in 2014 while the FX-8150 climbed to 8.709 GHz in 2012. We had to wait until 2023 and SuperO to see a Core i9 13900K reach 8.725 MHz.

In any case, it’s a great feat!
