Starfield: AMD warns against fake contests

Head to Twitter/X, where Bill Murphy, one of AMD’s top brass, warns of fraudulent contests. Indeed, Indie Kings has announced a competition to win an RX 7900 XTX featuring the Starfield game!

Starfield: beware of bogus competitions to win AMD components featuring the game!

As a reminder, to celebrate the partnership between AMD and Bethesda, a limited number of components featuring the game have been produced. We’re talking 500 units here. The only drawback is that the 500 batches are not for sale. The only way to get one is to take part in the various events organized by AMD to win one, that’s all.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t stop unscrupulous people from organizing fake contests. One example is Indie King, to whom Bill Murphy points the finger. Murphy says he doesn’t think it’s an AMD or Bethesda partner. In short, let’s not mince words: it’s fake.

Hard to say what’s behind this manoeuvre? It’s hard to say, but Tom’s Hardware refers to data collection as ” sly data harvesters “, and we think it’s a way to get people talking. After all, no matter how bad the buzz, it’s still buzz.

For the time being, this forces us to take a step back from the eBay announcement of the bundle in question. On the one hand, it’s quite possible that it’s a user wanting to resell the bundle he won at QuakeCon. On the other hand, it could be a scam. Admittedly, the 1236 positive reviews on his profile are reassuring, but one negative review out of 1237 doesn’t carry much weight. Note that the ad now displays 42 bids for a price of $3,650!
