Even though SSDs have made a tremendous push into our computers, gradually leaving hard disks by the wayside, that doesn’t stop them from evolving. Indeed, Seagate continues to work on the subject, as do Western Digital and Toshiba. However, Seagate has made an announcement: the 30TB will be available in early 2024!

Hard disks: Seagate sticks to its guns!

Disque durFrom what we’ve learned of Seagate’s announcement, the brand indicates that its new hard drives will exploit HAMR technology. Through the latter, they announce that they intend to offer storage media exploiting a total of 10 platters of 3TB each. These should be arriving soon, with a date of the first quarter of 2024 announced. Initially, they were due to arrive in the third quarter of 2023, but the launch had to be rescheduled.

Again thanks to this famous HAMR technology, Seagate hopes to go even further… In fact, a 32TB disk has even been mentioned for the near future. However, the company hopes to reach 40TB capacity within the next two years. The company’s roadmap even mentions 50TB by 2026.

In short, while SSDs are favored by gamers, HDDs still have a clear advantage when it comes to storing large volumes of data. SSDs are still widely used in data centers… although some companies are making shock announcements in this area. Pure Storage and its 300TB SSDs by 2026 come to mind, but we don’t believe it.
