Scam : You order a 3090Ti, you get a tupperware with sand

During Prime Days, it’s the race for bargains and we have to admit that Amazon has managed to make this event a time where some prices are often more aggressive than during Black Friday. However, some rare times, a deal that is too good can actually hide one hell of a scam. We’re going to tell you about two unfortunate people who thought they had the deal of the year when they signed up for a RTX 3090 Ti and an RTX 3090, two of the most expensive cards on the market.

Scam: some funny situations with RTX 3090 and 3090ti

The golden award goes to a Brazilian customer, Mauricio Takeda, who wanted to treat himself to a new high-end graphics card on Amazon. It was a GameRock RTX 3090 Ti from Palit . Our friend was really shocked when he discovered inside the box a Tupperware with sand and other stuff probably used to give the whole thing the same weight as the graphics card. We have to admit that Amazon has a rather efficient return policy. But some smart people have probably identified loopholes and are returning packages having exchanged the contents. This means that Amazon only has a strict control with the weight, opening the door to some tricks. The unfortunate Mauricio found himself with a package reinstated in stock by Amazon without real control… a rare situation especially since the unfortunate customer had to fight to assert his rights.

3090ti The other scam is in the same spirit but a little more classic. The story concerns the purchase of a EVGA RTX 3090 sold as ” new ” by Amazon. Again, it’s once the box arrives at the house that things go wrong. The customer notices that the box has been opened but everything else seems to be in perfect condition. However, inside it is indeed an EVGA product that is there but we are no longer talking about a 3090, but a 3070. Here again, we can think that the origin of this problem is in the “generous” return system of Amazon. Some smart guy wanted to buy an upgrade for less.

EVGA 3090 arnaque If these two adventures allow us to relax by making fun of the poor “victims” of these scams, they still raise the question of Amazon’s return policy with a lack of control and especially a reintegration in “new” stock of products without any precaution. Source
