Apparently, Samsung is about to launch a new SSD… At least, a new capacity for a well-known SSD: the 990 Pro. This model will soon offer a capacity of 4TB!

990 Pro: soon a 4TB version!

Samsung 990 Pro 4 ToTwo versions of the SSD are planned, one without heatsink, the other with. As you can see, the brand’s cooling system is rather stylish with its black/red tones. In any case, this is a model that can be used for a wide range of applications: Laptop, fixed PC and console, in a PS5 for example.

Now to the technical side. Naturally, this is an M.2 format model featuring a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. Internally, we find an in-house controller, the Pascal, based on an ARM 32-bit Cortex-R5 architecture. It also benefits from an 8 nm etch. It is accompanied by Samsung’s 176-layer 3D TLC memory chips. Last but not least, a 4 GB LPDDR4 DRAM cache supports the system.

Performance is based on that of the 2TB model. Sequential read/write speeds of 7.45 GB/s are expected, compared with 6.9 GB/s. Random performance exceeds one million IOPS, with 1.4M read and 1.55M write IOPS. Finally, the Korean brand has doubled the endurance of the 990 Pro 2TB. The latter now peaks at 2400 TBW.

For the price, we’ll have to wait a little longer.
