AMD is on the verge of bringing us a new Ryzen processor, with a potential Ryzen 7 7700X3D. What’s in it for them ? To offer a more affordable model that’s just a tad slower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. But how? Perhaps by recycling, for example. However, we don’t yet know who it’s intended for, or which distribution model AMD has chosen.
Ryzen 7 7700X3D: a new X3D processor for reds!
Slightly slower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D :
If you’re a gamer with a big graphics card, opting for AMD’s X3D processor guarantees the best gaming performance today. In fact, we’ve learned that the company is on the verge of offering a new X3D model, but be warned: it’s a CPU based on the previous generation processor, a 7000 model.
The specifications shared by chi11eddog on X mention a model with 8 cores and 16 threads. As for frequencies, he mentions 4.0 GHz base with a 4.5 GHz turbo, while the amount of L3 cache memory shows 96 MB (32 MB base + 64 MB 3D V-Cache). Finally, the TDP is 120W.
Obviously, when reading these specifications, one expects this model to offer performance a little below that of the 7800X3D, from which it takes over most of the features. What’s more, we can expect AMD to make use of discarded dies to recycle them in a “second-rate” CPU , at least in comparison with the 7800X3D.
Okay, but for whom?
As we all know, AMD likes to offer processors that are exclusive to certain regions of the world or certain retailers. The 7600X3D, for example, was exclusive to MindFactory and Micro-Center. More recently, we heard about the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which seems to be destined for certain markets such as China and the UK. Alternatively, AMD could take a completely different path, offering a processor aimed solely at the OEM market or selected assemblers.
