Well, well, well… The situation is getting more complicated for AMD and its graphics cards. Off the record, rumour has it that AMD has postponed the release of the RX 9000 to an unknown date. Clearly, these models should arrive after the Chinese New Year, which takes place on January 29th this year.
No RX 9000 before the New Year?
We’re not going to go through the whole story again, but basically, we were expecting AMD’s new cards at CES, and that wasn’t the case. Since then, there’s been radio silence from AMD, and the company hasn’t said a word about its new GPUs.
On the ChipHell forum, things are getting more agitated, with a report indicating that the launch of the cards has been postponed until after the Chinese New Year. This year’s event takes place on January 29th, so expect an announcement after that date. In addition, it would appear that the previous date of January 22nd has now lapsed.
It would therefore seem that AMD needs more time to assess the situation in the face of NVIDIA’s RTX 50s, which are due to arrive officially by the end of January. It remains to be seen what commercial strategy, pricing and communications the company will adopt.
In any case, the brand has three months to launch its cards, as shown on the slide above. In fact, they mention availability in the first quarter of the year. It may have escaped your atention, but MSI is not planning to launch a custom card for the RX 9000, at least not at launch. However, this isn’t the first time the company has missed an AMD launch. In short, the company seems to be completely turning its back on the Reds, despite its response on the subject last year.
It’s worth noting that all this is causing confusion among the brand’s partners, who were expecting a cleaner launch than this. In addition, we have learned that AIBs have been able to start shipping their cards since December 2024.
