RX 6600M: laptop GPUs adapted to desktop cards!

Converting mobile GPUs into desktop cards is not new. Already, for mining, it is a known practice, moreover, we talked to you about it here with the RTX 3060. This time, it concerns the small RX 6600M from AMD, which has been adapted into a PCIe card. On paper, the practice doesn’t really have any major drawbacks, especially since these models are cheaper than their non-laptop counterparts!

RX 6600M: Laptop GPUs adapted to PCIe card!

RX 6600MWhat do we find in practice? Well, simply a laptop GPU soldered on a desktop board. It must be said that, basically, the two chips are identical. Internally, we have a Navi 23 GPU with 1792 stream processors. The same is true for the memory, with 8 GB of GDDR6 clocked at 14 Gbps, all with a 128-bit memory bus. The frequencies are almost identical: 2416 MHz in boost for the M version against 2491 MHz for the desktop version.

In addition, there will not even be a problem with the driver since the RADEON Software of AMD checks the ID of the GPU simply. And according to our colleagues at Miyconst you can overclock the GPU, but not the memory.

Finally, the main difference is in the selling price, which is more affordable. This RX 6600M ” desktop ” is displayed around 230 € against ~330 € the non-M version on Aliexpress. And an RX 6600 is 299,99 € at the very least. After that, you have to keep in mind that the purchase is made from China, so beware of possible customs fees. Moreover, the practice is not officially supported by AMD, so beware of the consequences behind this (potential future driver blocking, warranty, etc).
