Ouch, the graphics card market is not doing well… Well, yes, for NVIDIA everything is going well, perhaps even a little too well. In fact, the latest report from Jon Peddie Research shows that the chameleon is climbing to the top, with market share now reaching 90%!

NVIDIA boasts 90% market share!

NVIDIA Parts de marchéAs you can see from the graph above, NVIDIA is in top form, so much so that the company now has 90% market share. This leaves 10% share for AMD and 0% for Intel, which has completely disappeared from the radar since the second quarter of 2024. It has to be said that Arc A must not be selling much any more, and at the same time, everyone’s eyes are riveted on the new generation of cards!

In short, at 10%, AMD is at a critical level, as the company has never fallen so low in its history since the takeover of ATI. What’s more, the company is restructuring its offering, announcing that it will no longer be offering high-end cards. From now on, the company will focus on key sectors, those that capture market share: entry-level and mid-range… It remains to be seen whether this will be a success, since one after the other, we had very encouraging rumours about the RX 8800 XT, then much more measured ones.

As for Intel, the company has its work cut out for it, especially with Battlemage, and needs to gain share too. Let’s hope that the launch of the B580 and B570 brings something to the company, so that it can continue in this sector.

In the meantime, the graphics card market is not doing well as the year draws to a close, with card shipments on the decline. JPR tells us that in the third quarter, 8.1 million GPUs were shipped, representing an annual decline of 7.9% (vs Q3 2023) and 14.5% compared to the previous quarter, ouch. However, remembering that the new generation is on people’s minds, many are holding back and saving up for an RTX 50, an RX 8000 or even an Arc B, which should be available later today.

In any case, this 90% market share is worrying, since in a competitive sector like graphics cards, it doesn’t bode well for prices. We’ll see, but it’s not impossible that the Chameleon will take advantage of AMD’s absence from the high-end sector to inflate its prices.
