RX 8800 XT: the performance of a RTX 4080 for rasterization, with less power consumption!

Head over to the Chiphell forum, where user zhangzhonghao shares some juicy details about the next generation of AMD graphics cards. We can reasonably expect performance to rise, with big gains in ray tracing and lower power consumption. In short, everything we love!

RX 8800 XT: 45% more ray tracing performance at a TDP of 250-270W!

RDNA 4 - RX 8800 XT

Little by little, information is starting to pour in about this new generation of AMD graphics cards. As mentioned above, it’s zhangzhonghao who’s in charge, and according to him, the new generation should deliver some serious performance. If we are to believe what he tells us, the 8800 XT should bomb in ray tracing, where he mentions gains of 45%. What’s more, we learned back in May that this area would be overhauled with RDNA 4.

Another useful piece of information: consumption, which is said to be down sharply. While an RX 7900 XTX is capable of 350W in game, the new generation is said to be much more energy-efficient. In fact, rumours circulating on Chiphell indicate a reduction of around 25%. We can therefore expect values between 250-270W with this new card.

Last but not least, rasterization performance (without DLSS, ray tracing & Co.) is also expected to be significant, as the card is said to go head-to-head with the RTX 4080 and RTX 4080S. To get an idea, keep in mind the TDP of NVIDIA cards, which is 320W in this case. Yes, it hits hard.

All that remains now is to find out how much AMD intends to charge. Let’s not forget that the company officially renounced the high-end and Enthousiast sectors. We therefore expect “reasonable” prices. Ideally, the invoice should not exceed that of the current RX 7800 XT, which is currently selling for around €500.
