In the world of SSDs, XPG is striking back with a new series of products. The company is launching its Mars 980, a range of three products focused on high performance thanks to a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. What’s more, one of the products has a very interesting watercooling system!

Mars 980: XPG SSDs, including one with watercooling!

XPG Mars 980 With this series, the brand is offering us three SSDs… In fact, there’s only one, but there are three different cooling systems. The aim here is to suit a wide range of users.

Of course, the whole series benefits from an M.2 format, all with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. Performance will be high, with sequential speeds of 14 GB/s read and 13 GB/s write, with random performance of 2 million IOPS read and 1.65 million IOPS write.

However, what’s interesting to note here are the cooling solutions available. With the Pro version, we’re dealing with a passive SSD with a conventional heatsink. However, things get interesting with the Blade model and its active heatsink. It incorporates a small fan that blows directly onto a small aluminium block, so let’s hope this system isn’ t too noisy.

However, the most intriguing model is the Storm with its hybrid heatsink that mixes aircooling and watercooling. This version has a cylinder containing liquid that comes into contact with copper, which is itself cooled by fans. An original but complex system for cooling an SSD. The brand mentions temperatures reduced by 20%.

Once again, the big question will be sales prices, since this type of SSD is generally expensive… At least, the PCIe 5.0 models.
