Beware of fan noise in PCIe 5.0 SSDs!

We recently told you that Japan was welcoming the very first PCIe 5.0 SSD to its market, and indeed the brand CFD Gaming launched its first model. On paper, it reached 9.5 GB/s in writing and was equipped with an active heatsink with a small fan… Well, obviously, the latter turns out to be a real pain in the ears!

PCIe 5.0 SSDs, beware of fan noise!

CFD Gaming SSD PCIe 5.0For this case, it’s @momomo_us who rinsed on Twitter with a video of the SSD in question in operation. In his video, which lasts about ten seconds, we can see the noise that the fan makes. As a reminder, this is a very small model of only 17 mm on a side. And according to @momomo_us, it works up to 21000 rpm. The only problem is the noise it generates with a high-pitched noise. Clearly, in a configuration, we would hear only him!

Finally, this is the element that you have to pay attention to when you buy such a product. CFD Gaming is clearly not the only one to opt for a small fan to cool its SSD. This is also the case with Corsair, ADATA, Galax etc. In addition, passive models such as the one from Gigabyte are also much larger, but infinitely quieter!

Of course, it remains to be seen how good the fans are, how fast they work and whether they are used intensively or not.
