Hitman 3 with RayTracing: An RTX 3090 for 4K at 30 FPS

Hitman 3 is not new, but it has been updated on PC to take advantage of RayTracing technology very recently. The purpose of this update is obviously to improve visual perception and to provide a new pleasure in the game. But in fact, to really take advantage of these improvements while keeping a comfort in game… You’ll have to get up early.

In fact, if you think your system with an RTX 3090 and a Core i9-10900K ( for example ) is going to curl, you’re in for a big surprise. With this configuration, RayTracing mode enabled and Ultra Quality details, you’ll only get 30 unfortunate FPS at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. So, what’s the point of enabling Raytracing if you’re going to degrade the game’s performance to this extent?

Digital Foundry was able to push the analysis to the end.

RT reflections are relatively very heavy on the GPU, to the point where an RTX 3090 running low settings at 4K sees 60% less performance in low mode, 67% worse performance in medium mode (…) lesser cards at lower resolutions still have a mountain to climb in terms of decent performance, while the gap between AMD and Nvidia hardware varies depending on RT Load(…) For Nvidia card users, I recommend that only RTX 3080 level GPUs choose to use RT reflections set to medium, while RTX 3070 level GPUs opt for low reflections. Anything below this performance class is not functional, and I would suggest using only the RT shadows option. By the way, based on IO Interactive’s specification recommendations, I would only suggest using reflections in conjunction with DLSS; yes, the impact is really high.
