In the IT world, China remains a market of choice, simply because the country represents the largest market in the sector. This also applies to graphics cards, where the situation is somewhat gloomy. Sales are stagnating, stocks are piling up and prices are falling!
Graphics card prices (sharply?) falling in China!
As far as RTX 4000 sales prices are concerned, we can see that the latter have fallen sharply. The small RTX 4060 now starts at 2,069 yuan (~€275), compared with 2,399 yuan at launch (~€320). Ditto for the 4060 Ti 8GB and 16GB, which lose 410 yuan and 450 yuan respectively. However, the biggest discount is for the RTX 4090, which loses around 20% of its value. In China, the card is priced at 7899 yuan (~€1050) instead of the 9499 yuan at launch. Roughly speaking, the entire RTX 40 series has lost around 15% of its value.
On the AMD side, we’re also seeing price cuts, though these seem to be more limited to mid-range cards. The 7700 XT has lost 350 yuan, while the 7800 XT’s drop is more contained (~7%). However, these two cards are the latest red launches, so it’s not surprising that the declines are smaller. On the other hand, the 7900 GRE is unchanged at 5299 yuan, while the biggest price drops are felt at the top end of the range: the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX. These two cards see their value drop by ~30% and ~21% respectively. In euros, the cards are therefore priced at €756 and €875.
Finally, when we see how the selling price of cards is being driven down, we’d hardly be surprised to see NVIDIA make a few manipulations in order to keep prices high. We’re thinking in particular of a reduction in card production, which would lead to stock-outs in Japan in particular.
However, if sales don’t pick up again, we can expect to see lower prices here too. According to El Chapuzas Informatico, the cards aren’t going out in bulk in Europe either.
