Chinese MTT S80 at Ryzen 7 5700G iGPU level!

We’ve been telling you about Moore Threads’ Chinese graphics cards for some time now. It’s true that not everyone is capable of producing such components, and it’s quite a feat to design and manufacture them from scratch. Nevertheless, the MTT S80 doesn’t perform much better than an old-generation AMD processor iGPU.

MTT S80: not up to scratch, far from it!

MTT S80

In order to assess the performance offered by Chinese GPUs, ComputerBase offers us a short comparative test including the MTT S80 and the more recent MTT S30. While the S80 is the manufacturer’s best-performing card, the smaller S30 is an entry-level card and won’t be of much use other than for display-related tasks.

As for performance, this has been measured on various games. These include Baldur’s Gate 3, Counter Strike 2, Anno 1800 and Dota 2.

As we can see, the cards don’t shine in terms of performance, far from it… despite the presence of drivers capable of doubling performance in certain scenarios.

MTT S80 performancesBut in actual fact, on the games that the cards are capable of launching (plenty don’t), we get an S80 at the level of a Ryzen 7 5700G iGPU… An old-generation AMD APU. As for the S30, it’s impossible to do anything. As you can see, on average, on the games mentioned above, the card only generates 11 FPS. On Anno 1800, for example, we’re at 3.7 FPS, compared with 7.4 FPS on Baldur’s Gate 3. Even on light games like CS2, the S80 delivers ~60 FPS compared with 21.5 for the S30.

In reality, it turns out that performance gains expressed in percentages are just for show. In fact, going from 1 FPS to 2 FPS already represents a gain of 100%.
