In a long blog post, ASUS presents its new Prime RTX 5080, a card occupying the entry-level sector of the brand. There’s no aRGB lighting or four-slot heatsink like on a ROG Astral. No, however, this rational design means that the card fits more easily into compact PCs, unlike the Astral series, which is unlikely to fit into even the smallest ITX case!
Prime RTX 5080: 2.5 slots for a length of 30.4 cm!
With this series of cards, ASUS is concentrating on small-format PCs, as not everyone has the space for a huge case to house a large graphics card. With its 2.5 slots and 30.4 cm length, this Prime RTX 5080 will fit more easily into smaller cases. Well, don’t expect it to fit in a Jonsbo TK-0 either, that’s not the point, but it will fit in a Lian Li Q58!
Otherwise, the card boasts a rather streamlined design with lots of curved lines. The casing has a texture that mimics brushed aluminium, while there are reminders of the series as well as white edgings that are typical of the series.
Nevertheless, the card has nothing to be ashamed of in terms of its cooling system, which features three Axial-Tech fans with semi-passive operation and a ventilated backplate. Alongside this, we also find a vapour chamber and phase-change thermal pads to help cool the card.
Otherwise, when it comes to frequencies, ASUS doesn’t mention those of the GPU… What’s more, although this model is listed at LDLC (French retailer) in particular, no frequency is given in the datasheet either. What we do know is that this model has three HDMI 2.1a outputs and one DisplayPort 2.1. As for the power supply, the card will require a 12V-2×6 socket, but don’t panic, an adapter is supplied in the box.
In terms of price, we’re dealing with a so-called ‘MSRP’ card, as it’s listed at our retailers at €1,179, although of course no stocks are shown.
