Little by little, the first generation of Intel graphics cards is making its mark. This was hardly a foregone conclusion, given the particularly catastrophic launch. The latest production model, the A580, turns out to be not so far behind the RX 7600 and RTX 4060, which may not be the stuff of dreams, but is at the heart of the market. The next generation of blueprints, called Battlemage, could come a little closer to stepping on the competition’s toes. According to initial leaks, the leap in performance is significant, and would enable Intel to move into the mid-range/high-end segment.
Of course, as always, we’d like to point out that these leaks are nothing more than rumours, and it’s difficult to verify them at this stage. However, it doesn’t seem incoherent to think that Intel is going to turn a corner with its next generation. In any case, if the above information proves true, it means that Intel will benefit from much the same technologies as its two competitors, AMD and Nvidia. By using the TSMC N4 node for its next GPUs, Intel will be up against NVIDIA, which uses an optimized variant of the N5 node. This is the same node used for AMD’s Zen 4 and RDNA 3 GPUs. According to leakers, the limited data seems to promise performance on a par with, or even a little better than, an RTX 4070 Ti or an RX 7900 XT.
When are the next Intel graphics cards due?
In short, the details are few and far between, but all this excitement suggests that we’re getting closer to the arrival of Battlemage. A release by the end of 2023 seems difficult, but Intel could be preparing a presentation at the very beginning of 2024… Like at CES, for example, where Nvidia could announce a new RTX 4080…
