Another Core i9 13900K buyer’s misadventure: he received the processor… Without the processor. We explain.

A Core i9 13900K purchased, but no die!

Core i9 13900K

Generally speaking, in the event of fraud, we end up with a different processor from the one we initially purchased. Recently, a purchaser of a 13900K paid the price. Instead of getting the CPU he bought, he ended up with a Core i7 13700K on which the wrong IHS was intentionally placed. This is a fairly common case of after-sales return fraud.

On the other hand, our user was in for a surprise of a completely different kind. In our case, the buyer acquired his CPU online, on the BestBuy marketplace. However, despite the fact that the CPU was brand new, after being installed in his PC, the machine wouldn’t boot up, which was rather strange.

It was when he delid the CPU that he realized the problem, as his processor simply didn’t have the CPU part. After removing the IHS, he realized that there was simply no die… Which is a bit silly, because it’s this famous die that actually contains the CPU. The rest is just the PCB and substrate. By the way, our buyer was able to admire a nice slice of black silicone.

Now all that remains is to find out where the problem comes from… And here, it’s pretty hard to determine whether it was done with bad intentions or whether it’s a construction defect.
