Gigabyte has published the datasheet for its new motherboard for overclockers. The Z890 Aorus Tachyon Duo X Ice has now been published on Gigabyte’s website. In broad terms, the board remains largely identical to the original Z890 Aorus Tachyon Ice. However, it does feature different RAM support and a PCB with slightly fewer layers!
Z890 Aorus Tachyon Duo X Ice: still a clockers board!
A technical data sheet largely identical to the previous model:
Broadly speaking, this new model retains its original layout, with a socket and two memory slots oriented at -90°. It also features two PCIe Gen5 x16 (x16/x8) slots for the connection of two graphics cards. Storage is also supported by four M.2s, three of which are PCIe Gen4 x4 and one PCIe Gen5 x4. Last but not least, four SATAs complete the picture.
The CPU power supply remains as efficient as ever, with 18+1+2 power supply phases. These are 110A Dr.MOS. This part remains unchanged from the original model.
Last but not least, our buttons and debug LEDs continue to simplify the life of overclockers through a variety of practice-related functions. But we won’t go into detail here.
A few minor differences:
Finally, the main differences are to be found in the memory area. Despite the presence of two DDR5 slots, the motherboard can handle up to 256 GB of RAM thanks to its CQDIMM memory support. We’re talking about 256 GB of RAM spread over two modules, compared with 128 GB for the original board.
Otherwise, the other difference is to be found in the PCB, which has fewer layers than the original board. While the first model has 10 layers, this new version has 8. It remains to be seen what impact this will have on signal integrity, a particularly important factor when it comes to memory overclocking.
